The health care context and environment influence not only the quality of care delivered but also the safety and wellbeing of care providers. “The nurse …has the right to expect the employer to provider a safe and health work environment”

Thus facilitating the provision of safe and efficient care. It is there fore incumbent upon the employer to provide a safe and supportive work environment that protects nursing/midwifery personal from occupational hazards –such as exposure to HIV/AIDS and other blood borne infections –and prevent transmission of infection to patient/client .

Measures that promote a safer work environment:

ü      Education of employees about the occupational risk and methods of prevention of HIV/AIDS   hepatitis and other infectious diseases.

ü      Adherence to safety policies and procedures for reporting exposure.

ü      Availability of appropriate disinfectants to clean up spills of blood or other body fluids.

ü      Provision of personal protective equipment such as gloves and other barrier devices. And so many other things

The employer must also be responsible for:

ü      Providing work practice controls such as needless intravenous system, safe needle system, and appropriate sharps disposal.

ü      Maintaining appropriate staffing levels

ü      Ensuring that universal precautions are implemented.

ü      Providing post-exposure counseling follow –up treatment and care.

ü      Controlling shift lengths and providing supervision of inexperienced staff.

ü      Addressing the health care , compensation and financial needs of HIV positive             Nursing /midwifery   personal

ü      Providing dispute settlement mechanisms for HIV infected personal

ü      And so many others. Finally I would like to suggest take care of every body who is nursing in Somaliland and over the world; I am also saying thanks for helping PLWH

                                                      Thanks to Allah
